At Bexley Tigers, we are committed to making basketball accessible to young people across the London Borough of Bexley. Through our charitable arm, Tigers In The Community, we are currently partnering with local schools to provide fully funded after-school basketball sessions—helping schools introduce structured basketball training at no cost to them.

These sessions are currently available at:
🏀 Trinity C of E School, Belvedere
🏀 Bexley Grammar School
🏀 Welling School
🏀 Hurstmere School

We are proud to be working closely with schools to support their basketball provision and engage more young people in sport.

Investing in Schools and Expanding Basketball Access

As part of our mission to grow basketball in Bexley, we are investing in schools by sending qualified basketball coaches to deliver structured, high-quality sessions directly on school grounds. By doing so, we are helping schools overcome barriers such as limited resources, coaching staff, or funding, ensuring that more students can experience the benefits of basketball.

Currently, these sessions are fully funded, allowing students to take part at no cost. However, as demand for basketball in Bexley continues to rise, we are exploring ways to make this programme sustainable and ensure it can continue long-term. We are working closely with schools and parents to develop a self-sustaining model, where students who want to continue beyond the initial funded period can opt into paid sessions to keep benefiting from structured coaching.

These sessions cater to both boys and girls, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to experience basketball in a supportive environment.

Why We Do This

Basketball is the second most played team sport for youth in the UK, yet many schools struggle to provide structured basketball programmes due to limited resources, funding, or coaching expertise. As a community-driven club, Bexley Tigers is committed to bridging this gap and ensuring that every child in Bexley has the chance to play and develop through basketball.

By working with schools, we aim to:
Promote physical activity and wellbeing among students.
Provide structured, high-quality basketball coaching delivered by trained professionals.
Support schools in developing their basketball provision.
Create new opportunities for students to engage in the sport and progress into club-level basketball.

A Growing School Network

Our work with secondary schools is just the beginning. In addition to our after-school sessions, we are:
Engaging with primary schools through our Little Hoopers programme, designed specifically for younger children to develop basketball skills in a fun and engaging way.
Collaborating with schools through the Bexley Borough School Basketball Association (BBSBA)—an initiative that brings schools together to create more structured basketball competitions and leadership opportunities for students.
Opening discussions with more schools to expand our reach and ensure that basketball is an integral part of school sports provision in Bexley.
