Introducing the Tigers Officials Academy
The Tigers Officials Academy develops and supports individuals aspiring to become skilled Referees, Table Officials, and Statisticians. This initiative shows our dedication to improving basketball officiating while offering opportunities for participants to grow and thrive in these essential roles.
The academy delivers hands-on training to help participants build the knowledge and skills needed to excel. Officials learn basketball rules and practice the key aspects of officiating, preparing them to contribute effectively. Through our internal programmes such as Tigers CBL and beyond, participants gain practical experience that brings their training to life.
A key feature of the academy is its strong support system. Officials receive mentorship, access to resources, and logistical assistance. We handle scheduling, provide equipment, and ensure timely payments, allowing officials to focus fully on their roles. Additionally, the academy offers access to advanced clinics, workshops, and international events, helping members refine their expertise further.
Joining the Tigers Officials Academy connects participants to a respected community of officials who share a passion for basketball. Our vision is to build an academy admired both locally and nationally for the exceptional quality and professionalism of its members.
Whether you aim to become a Referee, Table Official, or Statistician, the Tigers Officials Academy provides the tools to develop your skills, grow your confidence, and engage in the exciting world of basketball officiating.
2023 MBA Division 1 Championship
Basketball has a very long history in England, being introduced there by YMCA almost immediately after it was invented (having been created by the Canadian Dr. James Naismith in 1891 in Massachusetts). World Wars I and II further spurred its popularity.
The elite league is the fully professional British Basketball League, featuring teams from England and Scotland, while the semi-professional National Basketball League effectively forms the second-tier. There is no promotion and relegation between the two leagues because the BBL operates a franchise system whereby teams have to “buy into” the league.
